Careers to Consider
On Thursday (Feb. 12), Highland Community College will host its annual Careers to Consider event in the HCC Student/Conference Center (H-201). CareerTEC helps with the event by sending information to our member schools and forwarding registration forms to HCC. In an effort to increase junior high career exploration (a goal of our Comprehensive Local Needs Assessment), we invite eighth-graders to participate. In total, 54 eighth-graders from Dakota, Freeport, Orangeville, and Pecatonica will participate between 8:45 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Pizza, cookies, and drinks will be provided. Durand, Pearl City and Lena-Winslow elected to not participate this year, but each asked to have information shared next year.
Careers to Consider aims to help students explore opportunities in high-demand professions: agriculture-animal science, automotive mechanics, chemistry, CNC machining, cosmetology, early childhood education, healthcare, and welding. Students choose two of the eight professions to attend and are assigned two other areas. As they rotate through the sessions, students will have an opportunity to interact with instructors, participate in hands-on activities,
and explore career pathways in these exciting professions. Students may get a little messy, and are encouraged to dress accordingly. No open-toed shoes. No shorts.
Careers to Consider was cancelled last year due to weather
